More and more often we hear from parents that the transition from elementary school to the new middle school or grammar school is not going as smoothly as one would assume. At least with regard to English, the difference in level between primary school and secondary school is sometimes very large. The new school basically starts from scratch again. However, since the curriculum is very well stocked, the teachers have to keep to a corresponding pace.
Not all students get along well with this. Depending on how consistently the lessons were taught in elementary school, and whether there may be a previous education in the English language, it becomes more or less difficult to cope with the large amount of material. Since many other subjects are also added, there is not always enough time for English. Tutoring sessions are often necessary to ward off possible bad grades.
We have two programs that can be used as early as the 3rd grade of elementary school and optimally prepare the student for the change of school.
- individual individual support – One possibility is weekly personal individual support of the student by a native coach. The native speaker(s) from e.g. England, America, New Zealand or Australia teach accent-free English to perfection. Through playful exercises of daily activities, your child gets used to the language and also learns to use it actively and to develop a feeling for it. The sessions can either take place at your home, or small excursions can also be made together – of course within the framework of the current COVID regulations.
- specially tailored course “PAUL WARD EXPLORES” – In addition to this or instead of this, we start in December with a HYBRID English course by HELEN DORON especially for children in the 3rd and 4th grades. VS. HELEN DORON has been developing English courses for different age groups since 1985. Globally proven course material, online support and a streaming app to listen to support the children in their learning. For leisure time, there is also a separate “cool” radio station – in English.
Eight original songs, stories and engaging activities help students strengthen their phonetic and English reading and writing skills while having fun learning 1800 English words.
This new course is designed for beginners aged 8-14 as well as advanced students who are at the exam level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages before the A1 exam.
Eight original songs, stories and fun activities keep students motivated and involved in Paul Ward’s worldwide adventures. In each exciting lesson, students accompany Paul Ward on his journey around the world, make new friends and get to know different cultures and countries.
The course covers a large vocabulary of 1800 words and includes listening and reading comprehension, writing, spelling, and assessments to assess students’ progress.
Students learn to speak English naturally as their first language – through stories, songs, interaction and games to strengthen phonetic and English reading and writing skills.
